The New Career Prospects for National Game Testers

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Game testing is the process of analyzing video games for software defects and falls under the quality control process in the development of a video game. A standard video and computer games takes many years to develop depending on its scale. But the testing begins late in the development process. It takes place only upon 75 percent completion of the game. As a result, national game testers get new fractions from the developers on a particular schedule and each version demands a unique identification in order to detect errors in them. If you are exceptionally good at playing video games, it is not necessary that you can play the role of game tester perfectly too. The testing for a game does demand topmost levels of play, but it’s utmost requirement from testers is to think like a player who has just started playing. They have to be in the shoes of a regular player making small mistakes and try to imagine the possible pitfalls and errors made by them.

Career in Game Testing Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the industry and the various game design companies, you can look forward to getting the educational back up. After achieving the degree, you can look for video game design career information at most information portals like trade shows & publications, internet and college campus. As games have become much complex, a larger pool of quality assessment resources is necessary. And most publishers have a large QA staff who test various games from different developers. Normally, a group of testers work on one to two games at a time, depending on each game’s scale. When a game reaches its completion, they focus intensely on it as the QA requirements escalate.

You will be able to find endless amounts of information with every major publisher at these events. Just like events happen in different countries, for example- the Tokyo game show, or the Game Developers’ Conference in Japan, you can also look for your own National game show or Game tester fair that offers plenty of opportunities. These provide a proper channel to step in, grab information and meet the best designers with their best prospects.

NBA 2K8 Review – 2K Sports Has Done It Again

Monday, January 4th, 2010

NBA 2K8 is video game that is available exclusively for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360. Two years ago, marked 2K Sports’ first foray into the next generation of consoles. They made an adequate first impression. This year is different, and NBA 2K 8 improves from last year again. All of the things you see an NBA player do in real life is done well in the game. The stylish passes by Baron Davis and Steve Nash are as mundane as Tracy McGrady choking in the playoffs. Sorry Houston Rockets fans, but it is true. When LeBron James throws it down with an incredible dunk, the crowd will get up from their seats and give a standing ovation. The game is a phenomenal basketball simulation, and gamers will see everything they would see if they were watching a real NBA game.

For instance, the Phoenix Suns will attempt to speed the game up by playing a fast break offense. Conversely, the San Antonio Spurs will try to slow it down and utilize the shot clock. Players like Ray Allen, will have a quick release and drain the long range three point shot. The gameplay is the most authentic I have seen in any NBA game. Even the seemingly incongruous things can be greatly admired. These things include diving for loose balls and throwing the basketball off a defender’s body in order to salvage the possession. Every player in the game can have their appearance tweaked to look anyway they want. Even their basketball mannerisms can be altered such as how they dribble the basketball. NBA 2K 8 is not only for avid NBA fans; the game can be enjoyed by novice gamers as well.

The only gripe I had with this game is the audio. Commentary needs to be bolstered. Occasionally, the commentating is convoluted. The color commentator (Kenny Smith) will say something and just stop talking for a prolonged period of time (ala Madden 2006). I thought the commentary in the game was somewhat robotic. The street mode is back, but it is not as engrossing as the season gameplay. There is even a Tim Donaghy gambling training mode where you can gamble your life away. Moreover, the Isaiah Thomas sexual harassment gameplay element is excellent. I am obviously being facetious, but I would not be surprised if something like that could be playable in the game.

In all seriousness, NBA 2K 8 does a fantastic job of appeasing NBA aficionados. Clearly, the NBA 2K franchise has always been several dunks ahead of the NBA Live series and NBA 2008. This season is no exception to that rule. If anyone is looking for a pure basketball simulation, then NBA 2 K8 is the answ

How to Become a NBA Player

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Every serious basketball player dreams of one day reaching the highest level of basketball; the NBA. I dreamed of playing in the NBA and if you’re reading this book you probably do to. Nevertheless, dreaming of playing in the NBA won’t get you there; your work ethic CAN. I say CAN because not everyone is born with the talent to play in the NBA. By talent I mean things like size, length, speed, quickness with size being the emphasis. Almost everyone can greatly improve their speed, quickness or even vertical jump this is not the case with size; it’s all genetic.

Now, this doesn’t mean if you aren’t born with NBA talent you have no chance to make it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again hard work beats talent if talent fails to work hard. Lack of talent simply means you have to work even harder; the less talent you have the harder you have to work, it’s that simple. Steve Nash is the perfect example of this; if half of NBA players worked as hard as Nash he’d be out of the league. And remember if you have talent and work hard; the sky is the limit.

Now don’t fool yourself if you seriously want to make the NBA; its going take some VERY HARD WORK. Only 1.2% of division 1 basketball players go on to play in the NBA. Remember that’s only div 1 players; if you include div 2 and div 3 players and international players the chances are a lot less. This is in no way meant to discourage anyone; it’s to get you working harder because that’s the only way to make it unless you possess great talent. And I doubt any of you reading this book has great natural talent.

What you probably want to know is how you can maximize your chance to get to the NBA. Well it’s a fact that the best way to get to the NBA or simply the next level is to become a shooter. It’s that simple, great shooters are needed at every level. No matter your size or athletic ability (aka talent); if you can knock down open shots there’s going to be a spot for you at the next level. A shooter may not be what you want to be but understand it’s your best chance at ever making the NBA.

NBA 2K8 Preview

Monday, January 4th, 2010

This game marks the second iteration of the franchise on the next generation consoles. Unlike last season, the cover athlete on this year’s video game is New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul. Visual Concepts and 2K games does a brilliant job at making realistic basketball games. The artificial intelligence is as superb this year as it was in NBA 2K7.

Since NBA 2K8 is a basketball simulation, you have to adhere to the rules of the NBA. Players will act exactly like their real life counterparts. From Shaq missing free throws to Dwayne Wade attacking the rim, it is all in NBA 2K8. Novice basketball fans will more likely than not be floundering with this game; however, NBA 2K8 will be made for devoted basketball fans. The artificial intelligence is no push over. Do not expect that anyone can drive towards the hole and get to the free throw line. Playing erratically will cause you to turn the ball over.

Defenses will alter their style to accommodate their opponents. For instance, defenses will double team Shaq leaving Dwayne Wade open for a wide open jump shot. Realism will no doubt be the name of the game in NBA 2K8. Players like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James will make spectacular plays. Conversely, Tim Duncan will be immensely boring as hell to watch. A new slam dunk contest will definitely be a welcome addition. NBA 2K8 is scheduled to be available for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

The 2K series has always been a dribble ahead of the NBA Live series, and they look to continue that trend this year. NBA 2K8 is slated for an October 2, 2007 release date.

Types of Ice Skates

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

With sports such as ice hockey and ice skating being one of the most popular forms of entertainment all around the globe, ice skates are nothing new to the average individual.

Boots having blades attached to the bottom and used to propel a person across the sheet of ice is called ice skates. There is a crescent shaped hollow creating two sharp edges on the bottom of the ice skate. The depth of this hollow (Radius of Hollow) varies with the ability, strength, weight and activity of the skater as well as the type of sporting activity and style of play.

Some skates like speed skates and touring skates that do not have a hollow bottom, have an efficient glide but it cannot cut ice effectively.

There are different types of ice skates:

Bandy Skates: This type of ice skates are used for playing rink bandy and bandy. The boot is lower than hockey skates and made of synthetic leather. The blade is also a little longer than ice hockey skates to achieve and maintain higher speeds. Design of bandy skates are such that it does not injure the players.

Speed Skates: Speed ice skates are also called racing skates. These are completely different from figure skating and recreational skates. The design is to maximize speed while driving forward. The blades of such skates are longer than the boot and flat in shape to help glide forward. The type of speed skates where skate blade detaches from the heel to aid forward momentum when the skater is skating is called ‘slap blade.’ The boots of speed skates are made of lightweight leather or any such flexible material that allows foot movement during skating.

Touring Skates: The long blades that can be attached by bindings to hiking or cross-country ski boots are called touring skates. Such ice skates have long blades with a flat cross section making it stable. Such ice skates are mainly used to walk between lakes and non-skating sections. These are mainly used by mountaineers and trekkers and for non-competitive touring. The blades, which can be easily removed from the shoes when not in use, makes them particularly useful to the owner.
