Top 5 Point Guards in the NBA

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I love basketball. I think the NBA is my selection of all of the pro sports leagues, even though I’m a sucker for fantasy football. Regardless of this, I love sitting down to watch a full sport mettlesome in the spring, especially come playoff time on a Sunday afternoon. Ah, just thinking about it makes me wish for that time of year again. The beatific news is that as I’m writing this, we’re just a few weeks away from the start of the NBA season. Here’s another thing I’m going to do to pump myself up.

Without further ado, my crowning 5 point guards in the NBA.

1). Steve Nash. A few years ago he was number one, but like all beatific things, they eventually age. author module be 36 this season and while he’s still an exceptional athlete and one of the NBA’s guards, he’s slipped in the rankings.

2). Baron Davis. When healthy, he’s probably even better. The problem with solon is just that though – his health.

3). Deron Williams. Two years ago, I would have thought he was on his way to number two, but he slipped a taste terminal year. Between injuries and inconsistency, you could feature that 08-09 was a taste of a letdown for him. I do believe he’ll bounce back though.

4). Chauncey Billups. What he did for the Denver Nuggets terminal year was just remarkable.

5). Chris Paul. By the end of his career, some may very well call him a top-3 point guard of all-time, if they don’t already yet.

How to download and play free arcade games.

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

The arcade games business has grown rapidly during the last couple of years and is still expanding quiet quickly. Nowadays the arcade games are also known as causal games. The so called games for non-hardcore gamers have seen a surge in sales when Nintendo Wii came out. With its user-friendly controller and a $249 price tag, it’s a booming success. For example, on the week of Thanksgivings (the so called Black Friday 7 day holiday), Nintendo has sold more than a million of Wii’s.

With the Wii, you can actually play free online games. Just point your browser to http://playedonline.com and use your Wiimote as the mouse in hundreds of awesome flash based games. It’s really surprising how unintentionally Nintendo made a console that can handle so much.

First of all, it is a gaming console that allows you to play games using motion sensing technology. Then it has all these neat community tools that let you create a 3D Avatar and use it in your games. These avatars are also how people see you while playing online games. On top of that, there are several Channels that let you read news and watch weather forecasts.

But the best feature of all for arcade lovers is the web browser. It support full YouTube integration and lets you play pretty much any Flash Media. Meaning that you can play flash movies and games.

Here’s what you need to do:
Launch your Wii, press the Opera Browser button.

Once loaded, point it to http://playedonline.com

There, use the Wiimote to navigate through the different menus and whatnot, find your favorite genre. With flash based games these are usually Strategy, Shooting, Puzzle, Arcade, Sports and Adventure genres, but from time to time you see something totally unique and exciting.

Now, when you’ve decided what to play, simply click on the name of the game. It will start loading automatically. Please be patient as sometimes it takes a while for these fairly large files to load.

Also, the Wii’s browser is a bit outdated right now, so don’t be too terrified if a game doesn’t run. You can always try another one. And remember – you can play online games for free here! So by not paying anything, you don’t really lose anything, right?

The other thing about playing strategy games on the Wii is that using the Wiimote it becomes a very emerging experience, even with the cartoonish graphics. And considering that most of these games require you to only make a single click, it’s a great way to simply get away from it all. And you also bump up your arm when swinging the Wiimote.

Although you can easily play all of these free arcade games on your PC. And they are just as good on that “platform”. But Kudos to Nintendo for bringing free arcade entertainment to the living room – if only there was more innovation amongst other games hardware developers.

NBA 2K8 Review – 2K Sports Has Done It Again

Monday, January 4th, 2010

NBA 2K8 is video game that is available exclusively for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360. Two years ago, marked 2K Sports’ first foray into the next generation of consoles. They made an adequate first impression. This year is different, and NBA 2K 8 improves from last year again. All of the things you see an NBA player do in real life is done well in the game. The stylish passes by Baron Davis and Steve Nash are as mundane as Tracy McGrady choking in the playoffs. Sorry Houston Rockets fans, but it is true. When LeBron James throws it down with an incredible dunk, the crowd will get up from their seats and give a standing ovation. The game is a phenomenal basketball simulation, and gamers will see everything they would see if they were watching a real NBA game.

For instance, the Phoenix Suns will attempt to speed the game up by playing a fast break offense. Conversely, the San Antonio Spurs will try to slow it down and utilize the shot clock. Players like Ray Allen, will have a quick release and drain the long range three point shot. The gameplay is the most authentic I have seen in any NBA game. Even the seemingly incongruous things can be greatly admired. These things include diving for loose balls and throwing the basketball off a defender’s body in order to salvage the possession. Every player in the game can have their appearance tweaked to look anyway they want. Even their basketball mannerisms can be altered such as how they dribble the basketball. NBA 2K 8 is not only for avid NBA fans; the game can be enjoyed by novice gamers as well.

The only gripe I had with this game is the audio. Commentary needs to be bolstered. Occasionally, the commentating is convoluted. The color commentator (Kenny Smith) will say something and just stop talking for a prolonged period of time (ala Madden 2006). I thought the commentary in the game was somewhat robotic. The street mode is back, but it is not as engrossing as the season gameplay. There is even a Tim Donaghy gambling training mode where you can gamble your life away. Moreover, the Isaiah Thomas sexual harassment gameplay element is excellent. I am obviously being facetious, but I would not be surprised if something like that could be playable in the game.

In all seriousness, NBA 2K 8 does a fantastic job of appeasing NBA aficionados. Clearly, the NBA 2K franchise has always been several dunks ahead of the NBA Live series and NBA 2008. This season is no exception to that rule. If anyone is looking for a pure basketball simulation, then NBA 2 K8 is the answ

How to Become a NBA Player

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Every serious basketball player dreams of one day reaching the highest level of basketball; the NBA. I dreamed of playing in the NBA and if you’re reading this book you probably do to. Nevertheless, dreaming of playing in the NBA won’t get you there; your work ethic CAN. I say CAN because not everyone is born with the talent to play in the NBA. By talent I mean things like size, length, speed, quickness with size being the emphasis. Almost everyone can greatly improve their speed, quickness or even vertical jump this is not the case with size; it’s all genetic.

Now, this doesn’t mean if you aren’t born with NBA talent you have no chance to make it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again hard work beats talent if talent fails to work hard. Lack of talent simply means you have to work even harder; the less talent you have the harder you have to work, it’s that simple. Steve Nash is the perfect example of this; if half of NBA players worked as hard as Nash he’d be out of the league. And remember if you have talent and work hard; the sky is the limit.

Now don’t fool yourself if you seriously want to make the NBA; its going take some VERY HARD WORK. Only 1.2% of division 1 basketball players go on to play in the NBA. Remember that’s only div 1 players; if you include div 2 and div 3 players and international players the chances are a lot less. This is in no way meant to discourage anyone; it’s to get you working harder because that’s the only way to make it unless you possess great talent. And I doubt any of you reading this book has great natural talent.

What you probably want to know is how you can maximize your chance to get to the NBA. Well it’s a fact that the best way to get to the NBA or simply the next level is to become a shooter. It’s that simple, great shooters are needed at every level. No matter your size or athletic ability (aka talent); if you can knock down open shots there’s going to be a spot for you at the next level. A shooter may not be what you want to be but understand it’s your best chance at ever making the NBA.
